AYBL is a 501c3 youth basketball organization run by volunteers that operates in coordination with the Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PR&CS). Our 1st Step Program serves 1st and 2nd graders within the same boundaries outlined above.
Wanted to update everyone with respect to AYBL with respect to the 2020-2021 Season. Over the past several months we opted to suspend registration until we had a clearer picture on what "normal" would be once we as a community re-opened. Below is a few items to note as far as timeline, we'll be publishing greater details in the coming days and week ahead.
The message that will be published in the coming days ahead will outline our changes for this upcoming season, our plans for refunds should there be a partial season, suspended play, or simply no season at all. While I'm sure there will be questions along the way, please hold off until we publish further details within the next week.
Stay Safe, Stay Well!
A few reminders regarding registration are below as well:
All registration will be completed using the Sports Engine Platform, we will no longer be using SI Play for registrations.
Those wishing to tryout for their middle school team MUST be registered with the league in order to do so. We operate on a first come first served basis. Note, LCPS does not have any affiliation with the middle school teams, they are 100% operated by the league.
Those wishing to tryout for their high school freshman, jv and varsity teams are NOT required to register with our league as it is not affiliated with the LCPS sponsored high school teams. If your child is registered with our league for the upcoming season and they are selected for their high school team then a request for a refund must be made by November 15th.
All refunds for grades 8th and younger must request a refund by October 1st.
More details will be posted here as we get closer.
As published this morning,
Thinking of you all during this current health crisis while we are sheltering at home as announced by Governor Northam earlier this week. During this time, social media is strongly encouraging all of us to support small businesses; specifically, those restaurants and services along with the many small businesses within our community. Earlier this week, AYBL committed to three local businesses and purchased several gift cards in an effort to support their ability to continue to survive during this time. We purchased gift cards from the following:
- Ford’s Fish Shack
- Current Salon and Color Bar by Nese
- Passion Fin
We continue to evaluate other small businesses in our community that we can support through our organization and in turn give back to the participants within our league. We will use the raffle process, as outlined during the season, to award each of the purchased gift cards to those who participated in AYBL this past season. We will post the winners on the homepage of our website in the coming days (posted on the left hand side of the homepage where the Dick’s Sporting Goods raffle winners were located).
Along those same lines, we will be making the donations to the charities that the LBCC event would have supported this year in the coming weeks ahead.
The results of this drawing are, each winner below will receive a $100 gift card to the business noted next to each winner.
Please contact email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org to claim your gift cards.
Each year, AYBL holds a raffle in which three winners are selected for a top prize of $500 and two runner-up prizes are award of $250 each. In an effort to reduce the cost of printing the raffle tickets and the time needed to distribute and collect the raffle tickets and stubs to all players, the league will be using virtual tickets for the 2020 Raffle. Each player registered for the league has been randomly assigned 5 ticket numbers. The ticket numbers for all registered players will be posted on the AYBL website (on the home page). The raffle will take place during the House League Championship weekend – at the conclusion of the Boys 5th grade Awards Ceremony. The raffle will be done via a computer program which will select 3 random numbers of the lot of available ticket numbers from 1,000 to 10,309. The first number selected will be the grand prize winner. The next two random numbers selected will be the runner-up winners. The drawing will take place during the award ceremony after the first championship game with the supervision of the two coaches from the first championship game. Those coaches will witness the entering of the number of random ticket numbers to be selected, the range of ticket numbers available and then one of the coaches will announce the three winning numbers that were randomly selected. The league will post the winning numbers in the gym during the championship games and award ceremonies as well as post the winning numbers and the names of the winners on the league website.
Any questions regarding the new process for the annual league raffle should be directed to the Board Members of AYBL.
Player Evaluations will occur on the following weekends (all division are based on GRADE the player is in school):
Our Evaluation Schedule will be published in early September. All Evaluations will take place at the Play To Win Athletic Center located at 44600 Guilford Drive Suite 100 Ashburn VA 20147. Player MUST evaluate with their gender and grade level.
Players who are on the WAITLIST - you will be notified by (approximately) September 15th if a spot becomes available. Those that are on the waitlist - whether they played travel last year or not - are not eligible (due to league insurance requirements) to participate in our player evals or middle school team tryouts until they are fully registered.
Players intending to tryout for their middle school team MUST first complete the player evaluation. As found below, players who rank in the top 1/3 of their grade level will then be invited to attend the middle school tryouts which will be held at the end of September/beginning of October.
For those that tryout for the middle school team, are not selected and wish to withdraw will be afforded a refund less a $50 fee due to the costs we as a league incur during the evaluation process performed by a 3rd party assessor.
Those that withdraw must do so by October 9th, 2019 by email the league at email@example.com.
Practice begin on/about November 11th and conclude on/about March 15th.
We will play games on January 20th and February 17th-- all of which tend to fall around winter break for LCPS and long weekend holidays. Requests to move games to alternate dates are not feasible.
Exact practice times/locations will be communicated once teams are formed by October 31st.
Please ensure to read our FAQs and League Rules posted on the website. Those who volunteer as HEAD coaches, we will make every effort to keep those individuals close to home for their practice location - we do not guarantee the same for the over 1900 players in the league.
Please note that those in Grade 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th may have later end times (approx 930pm) for practice. We make every effort to have as many of the younger grade levels end around 8pm but it is contingent on gym allocation from Loudoun PRCS.
The registration system will open on Thursday August 15th - at this time we will fill any and all available space that remains. The fee does increase for those registering between August 15th and September 8th. Some divisions have already reached their capacity and we will be taking wait list additions at that time. Should your child be placed on our wait list; they are not yet registered with the league will NOT be eligible to participate in evaluations, middle school (travel) team tryouts, or take part in any AYBL activity. As a league we operate on a first come first served basis. The number of players we are able to support is driven largely by 2 factors --- the main one the number of HEAD coaches; without head coaches we are unable to add additional teams and players. While many folks offer to assist each season, an assistant coach does not carry the same level of commitment needed for us to assign players or form additional teams; only head coaches move that needle. The second factor is gym space for practices - we are limited to the facilities within the county that are made available via PRCS on any given night. There is a finite number of kids we can have practice at any one time before it becomes a safety issue.
Our registration period has now ended. Those players currently on the wait list will be notified if there is a spot available over the next 5-7 days (approximately).
